As spring quarter blossoms, summer becomes a hot topic for many students and staff working with our slugs. An important question is asked, “Why Summer Session?”

Consider the benefits to students. Taking just one summer course can put a student on track to graduate on time or leave room in their schedule for a valuable internship, a study abroad experience, or larger participation in a student organization, club, or team.

Summer is the time for small class sizes and a peaceful atmosphere. We offer over 250 courses both on campus and online, ranging from oceanography and o-chem, to painting and public speaking. Our priority is offering the upper division classes our students need to graduate.

UCSC staff and faculty can also take advantage of half-off tuition for Summer Session courses - a powerful professional and personal development opportunity! Last year, six UCSC staff members took classes including Creative Writing and Introduction to Japanese. Summer is a unique time when the UCs open their doors to everyone - staff, community members, high schoolers, and visitors from other universities can take full advantage of our fabulous campus.

Registration is now open for staff and all visiting students to get UCSC accounts set up. And all courses and details are in Class Search (select term “2017 Summer Quarter”). Then enrollment in classes opens on May 1.

Check out all course offerings online at summer.ucsc.edu or contact the Summer Session office for more information at 831–459–5373 or summer@ucsc.edu.
